Is Day Treatment Right for Me?

Researching treatment options for you or your loved one is overwhelming, and  there are many providers in southern Utah.

Detox centers, 30-day residential inpatient, 90-day residential treatment,  intensive outpatient treatment… the list goes on and on.

But what about those of us that can’t just leave our homes or jobs for an  extended period?

Is there a solution that can work with the daily obligations that come with being a  parent?

What if I have a youth that is struggling with their emotions, mental health, or  addiction?

Day treatment, or PHP, might be a good fit if you find yourself asking these  questions.

What is day treatment?

Premier Counseling in St George, Utah offers a wide range of programs, but let’s  dive into what day treatment is and what you can expect from our qualified  professionals.

Simply put, day treatment, sometimes referred to as PHP (partial hospitalization  treatment), is a solution for individuals with mental, emotional, or addiction problems. This includes anxiety, depression, substance abuse disorder, trauma, or other  related struggles. Patients can expect to receive four days of treatment during the week  with the ability to go home during nights and weekends.

Who is day treatment for?

PHP would suit individuals that have already completed medical detox if  necessary; have access to a stable and supportive living arrangement; and most  importantly, are willing and ready to take the steps to become healthy and happy.

Ideally, if you or your loved one have already completed a residential inpatient  program, the next phase would be to transition into a day treatment facility. The structure of this plan benefits a parent who may need to go home in the  evenings to take care of their children, struggling adolescents, or other clients who have  daily obligations that cannot be met in a residential treatment setting. The program allows patients to put practical use to the tools they receive in  everyday life.

What can I expect from sessions?

The needs of each client vary, so our plans are individualized to encourage the  highest likelihood of success.

Those in day treatment will be exposed to group and individual therapy sessions  with our skilled therapists and counselors.

During these sessions, clients will participate in recreational therapy, equine  therapy, meditation, breath work, yoga, process groups, mindfulness groups, relapse  prevention, emotion regulation, DBT, manifestation, and visualization.

A comprehensive approach to recovery is our goal. We are fortunate to call  southern Utah our home, so we take advantage of the St George landscape and all of  its healing powers physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I’ve tried recovery before and it didn’t work - how will  this be different?

No matter how many times you’ve tried to recover in the past, you have the  ability and a reason to recover. Maybe in the past, you’ve tried to address parts of a  condition at the surface level. When you begin your journey with Premier Counseling,  we’re going to redirect your attention to the root cause of your issue and pursue lifelong  health and happiness.

What if I struggle outside of treatment times?  One of the most useful tools you receive from the program is a network of like minded people that can and do relate to your struggles. You will build connections and  relationships with these people and secure a support system that will be there for you  when you experience tough times.

Additionally, you will be learning constructive skills that can be used at any time  of the day.

Is PHP or IOP better?

While both structures offer a solution for clients with daily obligations, day  treatment is four days a week with five-hour sessions during the afternoon, whereas  IOP (intensive outpatient treatment) is three days a week with three-hour sessions in  the evening.

Generally, you or your loved one will transition to intensive outpatient treatment  once day treatment has been completed.

By utilizing each level of care, beginning with residential inpatient treatment,  continuing to day treatment, and completing the program with intensive outpatient  treatment, you or your loved one will build a strong foundation for healing and growth.

Conclusion

Recovery is not a one size fits all process. Some of us struggle with emotional  disorders, mental disorders, addiction issues, or a combination of them.  There are a lot of options available to explore, and day treatment is an excellent  option for those that need to return to their lives in the evenings and on weekends or are  ready to transition to the next level of care after residential treatment. At Premier Counseling, you will receive a plan that has been created just for you  that utilizes multiple therapy techniques. We strategically incorporate indoor and  outdoor activities to aid in your recovery process.

One of the most notable benefits of pursuing a day treatment option is the ability  to put practical use to the skills you will receive daily. Additionally, you will start to build a  network of supportive fellows that will be vital to your journey and help you outside of  your PHP hours.

If you are ready to start healing, but day treatment doesn’t sound like the right fit,  Premier Counseling offers alternatives like intensive outpatient treatment, residential  inpatient treatment, and therapeutic groups for a range of issues including domestic  violence, anger management, and mental health.
